Nestling in the village of Bonchester Bridge The Horse and Hound Country Inn offers Traditional Scottish Warmth, and great food using fresh local produce and Real Ales from the local Micro Brewery.
The Horse and Hound began its working life in 1701 as a Coaching Inn. Nowadays the Country Restaurant serves up a delightful mix of Classic and Traditional Scottish Fayre. The Traditional Country Restaurant offers the perfect atmosphere in which to enjoy not only Traditional and Modern Scottish Fayre but also European Dishes.
An ideal spot to relax after enjoying many of the local activities on offer. For example: walking or cycling. Motorcyclists are also welcome, the public bar is pet friendly.
Bonchester Bridge is a paradise for road cycling with some of the quietest roads in the British Isles. Visitors are often amazed that they can cycle all day and hardly see a car; even the A roads are much quieter than most B roads in other parts of the country. There are rides to suit everyone from gentle leisure rides to serious challenges. For those keen on hills there is challenging cycling to the west while those looking for flatter terrain can find it to the east.
Mountain biking is also brilliant in the area. There are forestry tracks almost everywhere in the immediate vicinity with mostly unrestricted access. The Craik forest tracks are a favourite with locals. For those who like way marked and graded tracks the 7 Stanes trail at Newcastleton (http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestry/ACHS-5RJEKY) is nearby as is Keilder Forest which caters for leisure and serious cyclists and has cycle hire.
